Paul Kirley
I create Mixed Media Urban Landscapes that celebrate the infrastructure of Los Angeles. As inhabitants of LA, we are enveloped by a sprawl of traffic, concrete, power lines and freeways. My visual discoveries in LA often take place while driving. The motion blurs of light and color seen in my work result from time spent behind the wheel.
I view the overhead electrical wires as sketched lines of varied weights and overpasses as flowing dynamic volumes. I have developed an appreciation for the elements that both define and tie our city together. Combining photographic compositions with chunks of color and value, my work tells stories of a city in a constant state of motion.
